Patiki

Patiki – Room 7

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Pātiki!  I am very excited to be teaching the Year 2 and 3 classes this year and have lots of exciting learning opportunities and ideas in mind to make this a rich and memorable year for your child.

Our Values

Our Over-arching Values For Turua Junior School
Together the Tamariki are learning to engage with …
  • Our Learning Goals are focused on the concept of Tataiako – Key Competencies, relating to learning achievement and capabilities as outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum and our School Charter:

  • Tangata Whenuatanga – Place-based, cultural awareness, and learning
  • Ako – Practice in the classroom and beyond
  • Wanaungatanga – Building Positive Relationships
  • Manaakitanga – Values and virtues – integrity, sincerity, trust
  • Wananga – Communication, problem-solving, innovation

Getting on together, organising ourselves for learning, and working cooperatively as a team form the foundation on which young children achieve and grow as capable, self-confident learners who are willing to TAKE ON NEW CHALLENGES and ‘have a go’.

COMMUNICATION

Patiki Room 7 (along with the rest of the Junior School) is connected to an app called Class Dojo
This is like our very own class Facebook, however, it is only accessible only to the Parents, Whanau, and Students of Room 7.
The Dojo is the place to go to see what is happening in the classroom in the way of activities and coming events. There are notice reminders and it has a message facility (similar to Messenger) That allows the Kaiako to message parents individually.  (When your child joins our class, you will be sent an individual login via your email or mobile number.)
There is also a Portfolio section on the class dojo in which your child can show their individual work and progress in various subjects.
Home Learning is Via Class Dojo-Your Child’s  Class Dojo portfolio also doubles as the Portal for Home Learning when required.
The Turua School Weekly Newsletters are now sent in an e-format. Don’t forget to check regularly each week to find out about what’s happening in the school community in the way of News, Information, and Upcoming Events.
If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing or progress, please feel free to email me anytime or have a word before or after school. (At times we may need to make an appointment to discuss matters further.)

Pātiki LIBRARY Day

Our library day is Thursday. All library books need to be returned to the library each week so that your child can have new books issued.

HOME LEARNING

The school’s expectation is that children in the junior school will spend approximately 10-15 minutes each night on home learning.  In Room 7, this will include:
From Monday to Thursday, children will bring home a guided reading text (small book)  and Friday a poem to read with you.  Please complete the yellow reading journal with your child and keep it in their book bag.
Please don’t forget to return the readers, and poetry books to school each day as there are various classroom follow-up activities that cannot be completed easily if your child has no access to their individual copy of the books.

HATS  AND SUNSCREEN

Due to Turua’s Sun Smart School policy brimmed hats are Compulsory during Terms 1 and 4.
Students are required to wear these in order to play in the school playground and sunny areas of the school.  The students without hats are required to play in the shaded areas outside the classroom.  Please remember to apply sunscreen before coming to school. There is a small amount of sunscreen available in the classroom for those that forget to Slip! Slop! Slap!
Don’t forget to label hats preferably on the body of the hat as well as the tag.
