Junior Swimming Sports Day

Principal's Welcome

The weather was fabulous for our junior swimming demonstration on Tuesday and it was great to get it completed before the pool closure this week. A big thank you to our school community for the kind words and support for the Primary Teacher and Principal bargaining. Let's hope that it gets sorted quickly to limit any further interruptions.
Our Pumpkin Festival is not far away and we encourage everyone to come along for a fun filled morning. There will be something for the whole family including delicious food, games, raffles, pony rides, a bouncy castle, decorating competitions and of course some giant pumpkins!!There are some amazing prizes for the raffles so tell everyone you know and bring the family along.

BOARD UPDATE
Kia ora koutou from the Board of Trustees.

The Board’s first priority when we met on Monday was to discuss the impact of this week’s nation-wide teachers’ strike. Our decision to close the school was based on our responsibility to ensure a safe environment for our students and staff. To minimise the disruption of any future closures, where possible, Board members will plan to be on-site to allow our school to partially open. This will allow a limited number of students to attend school where parents and caregivers aren’t able to make arrangements for learning from home.

We hope to see you all at the Giant Pumpkin Festival on 1 April. Will anyone beat the current record of 135kgs?! School staff and parent volunteers have been working hard to create a fun day for our whanau and community, with raffles, activities and art displays. All funds raised will support our Garden to Table programme.

We also hear that over 80 students will be participating in the Hockey Big Day Out in Ngatea on 24 March. Reflecting on the Pumpkin Festival, Garden to Table, recent swimming and water safety activities, the planned senior camp, and our annual Calf Club event – we’re proud to be part of a school with such diverse curriculum opportunities for our tamariki.

Thank you for your continuing support of our teachers and school. Our next Board of Trustees meeting is on Wednesday 26 April at 5.15pm in the school staffroom.

Garden To Table

This week at Garden to Table we continued our theme of term 1 of skill building. The gardeners from Te Wheke and Mangopare focused on feeding and mulching the beds, continued harvesting the prolific cucumbers, and workshopped safe secauteer use. It is evident that autumn weather has arrived because the leaf rakes were out too, collecting leaves, a very important source of carbon and nutrients for our compost. Our budding Te Wheke chefs kept busy making pizza topped with a tasty and unusual combination of tomato, leeks, and potato. Mangopare tested their knife skills to thinly slice up zucchini and tomato to layer up with cheese for a tasty bake.

We also started working on tasks for the upcoming pumpkin festival, it is fast approaching and it's a great opportunity to give the tamariki an insight to how events are run and the planning involved to get everything ready for an amazing event.

After School Care / Holiday Programme

As you know we operate the above programmes for the benefit of our families keeping our charges as low as possible. We have not increased our afterschool care fee for six years, however due to increased costs in all areas we must now do so. From the start of term two the daily charge for after school care will be as follows:

One child $15.00 per day
Family fee: Two children $28.00 per day, three children $38.00 per day

Holiday Programme 8.30 to 5.00pm
One child $35.00 per day
Family fee; First child $35.00, additional children $30.00 per day

For our holiday programme to go ahead we must have at least 9 children per day registered otherwise it is not financially viable. These fees will take effect from our next holiday programme which will be 17th to 21st April 2023. Enrolments for this are open now. Please let Joanne or the After school team know as soon as possible. Enrolment forms must be completed before your child's place is confirmed. Early enrolment is appreciated so we can let our parents that rely on it know if it is not going ahead as soon as possible. Thank you.
